Pittsburgh, PA: I wrote yesterday that I did not see a scenario in which Bryson DeChambeau did not win this week and or win the Fed Ex Cup Championship. After day one, it is clear why I never made any money in Vegas as Bryson is tied with Phil Mickelson at the bottom of the leaderboard eight strokes back. Not only is that not what I was expecting, it clearly was not what he expected.
🐅 @TigerWoods electrified East Lake on Thursday.

After day one, your leaders are Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods, not a surprise from either player after watching them both play this season. Here is a snapshot of the top of the leaderboard.
- Rickie Fowler 65 (-5)
- Tiger Woods 65 (-5)
- Gary Woodland 66 (-4)
- Justin Rose 66 (-4)
- Rory McIlroy 67 (-3)
- Justin Thomas 67 (-3)
- Tony Finau 67 (-3)
If the leaderboard does not change all that much today, the weekend will be an amazing finish as Fowler, Rose, Thomas and Finau battle for the title. If Tiger were to win and the leaderboard were stay similar to how it looks now, he will not accumulate enough points to beat out Justin Rose.
After Day one, here are some initial point projections.
1. Justin Rose (2nd in FedExCup), 2,450 projected points
2. Tiger Woods (20th in FedExCup), 2,219 projected points
3. Rickie Fowler (23rd in FedExCup, 2,182 projected points
4. Bryson DeChambeau (1st in FedExCup), 2,160 projected points
5. Tony Finau, (3rd in projected points), 1,920 projected points
Day One Thoughts
Tiger Snaked in a long putt on 18 for an Eagle to tie Fowler for the lead as it was a great finish to really strong first day for Woods.
Seeing Tony Finau just two strokes back is a familiar position for him as we have seen that all season long. For him to win this week though, he needs some help if he is just going to hang close and not win the tournament.
Justin Rose could not have found himself in a better position with Bryson DeChambeau starting off so slow on Day One. Rose has been the best player in golf from my standpoint for several months and with him having a stellar round on Thursday, he is in the perfect position to finish with a Tour Championship Victory.
Fowler and Thomas are players that can’t be slept on either with both carding great first round scores including Rickie being tied for the lead.
