Jim Furyk Picks DeChambeau, Woods, and Mickelson for his First Three Captains Picks

This was a bit anti climactic, but Jim Furyk chose three of his four Captains Picks at 5pm today and those three were whom everyone expected.   Jim chose Bryson DeChambeau, Tiger Woods, and Phil Mickelson.

Bryson DeChambeau

With Bryson’s recent run, not to mention his year in general… he earned a spot on Jim’s team for sure, not to mention the respect of his teammates.  DeChambeau is a firey player and that fire could be a good thing when they compete in France in a few weeks.

Phil Mickelson

Phil Mickelson is 9th in Fed Ex Cup Points and 24th  in the Official World Golf Rankings.  At 48 years young, Phil will be playing in a record 12 Ryder Cups including this 2018 Competition in France.   His overall record is 18-20-7, but his record is really not

Phil’s record is near .500 in all three facets of this Tournament and has been a driving force in recent Cups for the US Team.  He is not all that easy to play with because his driver is all over the place, he is incredibly supportive and keeps the mood lite on the course. If we are looking for how Jim will use him, Phil and Rickie Fowler have had success together not to mention the two of them like playing together.

Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods on the other hand returns after missing the last couple Ryder Cups as a player.   He was one of the co captains in several of the last post season events.   He is the 26th ranked player in the world, 25th in Fed Ex Cup Points.  His Ryder Cup record in the previous seven appearances is 13-17-3 in 33 total matches.

Tiger is a strong singles player with a 4-1 record so I would expect Jim to take advantage of that this year.
