An Early Look Ahead at The 2018 PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club

\This weeks PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club is Presented by the Tristate PGA.

After a win by Justin Thomas today, the PGA Championship at Bellerive Country Club in St Louis this upcoming week stands poised to crown the fourth and final Major Champion of the season.  Taking a look at the rest of the final leader board in Akron, it appears the games best are looking to finish the season strong. With the likes of Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka near the top, along with Rory McIllroy and Ian Poulter close, the upcoming week looks to be must see TV.

The other major story this week, other than the play itself and the upcoming PGA Championship had to be the fact that the Venue that has housed the WGC Bridgestone along with other tournaments for the last 70 years will no longer be a stop on the PGA Tour.  It will however hose a PGA Champions event, but it definitely will not be the same.

Coming into the weekend, Ian Poulter was leading and Rory was within striking distance.  But Rory was stuck in neutral for the weekend and Ian Poulter only had reverse left in his bag. Something we have seen from both players this year, all too often.

Dustin Johnson was floundering and struggled to make the cut this week.  Then a big Saturday along with some early fireworks on Sunday had him within 4 strokes not halfway through his Sunday.

Tommy Fleetwood followed his 63 up on Friday with an ugly 74 on Saturday which all but took him out of the tournament.   He would finish at 6-under, nine strokes out of first.

Phil Mickelson would dance his way to a 3-under finish while Tiger Woods would gaf up his weekend with 73’s on Saturday or Sunday to finish at even.   Woods was within striking distance coming into the weekend but would once again struggle down the stretch.

Jason Day is another player that will figure in this upcoming week that had a tough final round this week finishing at 7-under… eight strokes behind the leader.

As for our Winner Justin Thomas, it was his third win of the season joining Bubba Watson as the only other player on the PGA Tour with that many victories this season.  His other two victories were at the Honda Classic and the CJ Cup @ nine bridges.  Thomas is the defending Champion at the PGA Championship and the defending Fed EX Cup Championship.

Bellerive Country Club, has hosted two majors prior to this years PGA Championship including the US Open in 1965 and the PGA Championship in 1992.

The Club itself started as The Field Club over 120 years ago.   After a couple of moves, Famed Golf Course Architect Robert Trent Jones redesigned the course at its current location in 1960.
