US Women’s Senior Open Update

The Chicago Golf Club is playing difficult as there are very few red numbers after the first 36 holes.  Both Laura Davies and Trish Johnson sit at 4-under par while Julie Inkster, whom shot an even par round on day one was able finish 1-under on the day and  overall.  The 1-under round, puts Inkster in Shouting distance.

As a note, because of the threat for inclement weather, the third round will be played much like the first two days as they will continue to go off of both the front and back.  Because of that, FS1 will be Broadcasting the Tournament from 2:30-4:30 PM.

It was Elaine Crosby that led after day one with a 3-under par round, though both Davies and Johnson were close. On day two it would be Crosby falling back to the pack watching Davies and Johnson move up the leaderboard.  Crosby would shoot a 5+over par round of 75 today to drop her back to 2+over for the Championship.

Just like in her LPGA playing career, it would be the consistency of Laura Davies with her 2-under par rounds on Thursday and Friday that would vault her to the top of the leaderboard.

After her round on Thursday When asked about the Chicago Golf Club and the challenge, Laura Davies had this to say.“You stand on the tee and you think, right, you can take this place apart, but you know that’s not actually going to happen because the tees are generous, but it’s all about your second shot. It has to be in the right quadrant of the green because they’re big, squarish greens. They seem to have four separate quadrants. Today I did quite well. But it’s a course that, if the wind gets up, it’s going to be really tricky, but if it stays calm then maybe a few more 71s. Maybe one round in the 60s would be good.”

Julie Inkster, came into the tournament as one of the favorites.  Her 1-under par overall score puts her into position to make a move this weekend.

Due to potential inclement weather at the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open at Chicago Golf Club, players will start off of both the first and tenth tees in groups of three for Saturday’s third round. Tee times will be announced at the conclusion of Friday’s play.
In addition, due to the scheduling change, championship coverage on FS1 will air from 1:30-3:30 CT on Saturday, July 14.

There would be a total of 7 players in the red today including our leaders.  The others chasing include Danielle Ammaccapane with a 2-under round to draw her back to even.

Barb Moxness is Even overall and 3-under par through for her round today through 15 holes.  Yuko Saito finished today at 1+over for the Tournament, but 2-under for her round today. Both Kristi Albers and Cathy Johnston-Forbes both finished in red figures for the round at 1-under.  Albers sits tied for 14th at 2+over par, while Johnston-Forbes is at 5+over for the tournament.

With just a couple players left on the course, the projected cut line sits at 12+over.  With that being the case, there will be 7 Amateurs that will make the cut.

  • Patricia Ehrhart +3
  • Ellen Part +7
  • Martha Leach +7
  • Kathy Kurata +10
  • Sue Wooster +11
  • Marie-Therese Torti +12
  • Akemi Nakata Khaiat +12
