GolfMonger Preview: AT&T Byron Nelson

The AT&T Byron Nelson at TPC Four Seasons Resort-Las Colinas is a favorite stop on the PGA TOUR for many of the players.  Making the trip to Dallas, TX and playing in the tournament named for one of the legends of the game, the AT&T Byron Nelson is a must do for all players at some point in their careers.

The AT&T Byron Nelson is now the ninth longest-running active tournament on the PGA TOUR schedule.  It was first played in 1944.  Since 1983 the tournament has been played at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas.

Steven Bowditch is the defending champ.  Last year in a rain shortened, 54-hole event, he went wire-to-wire to record the victory.  Rain is prevalent this time of year in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Hopefully it will not shorten the event this year.  It is too good a tourney to have that happen again.

GolfMonger Picks:

  1. Dustin Johnson – A horse for the course for sure this week.  He has four Top 10s in six starts at Las Colinas.  DJ hasn’t won yet this season.  We think it is time for that to stop.
  2. Jordan Spieth – This is basically a home game for Jordan.  And it may be coming at a perfect time for the young man.  Some home cooking could be just what he needs to get over the missed cut at THE PLAYERS.  We look for Spieth to be on the front page come Sunday afternoon for sure.
  3. Ryan Palmer – Ryan is also a Texan that can consider the Byron Nelson a home game of sorts.  He has played well as of late has two Top 10s on his resume at this event.  He lost in a playoff in 2011 so he has been close before.

Wild Card Pick:

In an event like the AT&T Byron Nelson, there are a lot of ways to go with this pick.  We are almost assured to see a big surprise out front early and/or late.  We also could see a first time winner.  That being said Colt Knost is the pick.  We are riding the hot hand with Knost.  He finished T3 last week at TPC Sawgrass and was really the only 1 that looked like he could put pressure on Jason Day.  Oh and by the way…he is from Dallas.  Think there is a theme to our picks???
