Branden Grace Wins RBC Hertiage and earns his first PGA Tour victory.
“I can tick this one off the box and head into the next couple of majors trying to win it,” Grace said. “I have one notch. I’ve done it before, and I can do it again.”(AP)
Grace started the final round at Harbour Town, 3 shots behind leader Luke Donald. He did not trail long. Five birdies on the first nine holes and he was off and running to victory. Birdies at holes 12 and 13 gave the young South African a lead he would not relinquish.
“This really puts the cherry on top of the cake,” Grace said. “And I’m excited for things to start.”(AP)
We all got a good look at Grace last summer at Chambers Bay when he was in the mix at the US Open until a wayward tee shot on the 16th hole took him out of contention. He also had a strong showing at the PGA Championship with 5th place finish.
This was not the first good year of his career. He has 10 wins world wide before Sunday at the RBC Heritage. He is a strong striker of the golf ball. His length off the tee makes him a threat at any venue. He strikes the ball consistently with his irons as well. No wonder he handled the course and conditions on Hilton Head Island.
Bryson DeChambeau proved that his solid play at Augusta National was no fluke. In his first appearance as a professional, the youngster from SMU, finished T4. That was just four shots behind the winner. This young man will make more noise over the summer for sure.
Congratulations to Branden Grace on his first PGA Tour win at the RBC Heritage.
