GolfMonger Preview: Shriners Hospitals For Children Open

Las Vegas is this week’s stop on the PGA Tour at TPC Summerlin for the Shriners Hospitals For Children Open.  We missed last week’s Frys.com Open, well we didn’t MISS it but you know.  We needed some recovery time from the Presidents Cup coverage and the end of the 2014/15 season.

TPC Summerlin is a fun event for the players and spectators alike.  The Shriners Open is always a scoring buffet for four days in the desert.  It is a good place for the 144 players in the field to earn some good, early FedEx Cup points.  This is an event that anyone in the field could win.

We are going to jump right back into the thick of things with our first picks of the 2015/2016 PGA Tour season.  We had a pretty good season last season.   We will get some numbers out on twitter @GolfMonger as to our stats for the season.  We think we need to get off to a good start to pick up where we left off.

GolfMonger Picks:

1. Kevin Streelman – He finished 2nd in 2014 here.  He has a scoring average of 67.55 at TPC Summerlin.  That is enough for us.  We will see Kevin on the front page of the leaderboard before the week is over.

2.  Kevin Na – Coming off a week were he should feel like he let one get away, we think Na will bounce back quickly.  He got his first career PGA Tour win at the Shriners Open in 2011.  He will be in the mix on Sunday for the 2nd week in a row.

3.  Ryan Moore – 12 birdies on the weekend at Silverado last week earned Moore a Top 10 finish.  He won at TPC Summerlin in 2012.  We are big Ryan Moore fans and havae been waiting for him to have a breakout kind of season.  Here’s to hoping it is this season.

Wild Card Pick:

We actually picked a winner or two out of this pick last season.  This week feels like a week we could have some success again.  A wide open field lends to that chance.  Nick Watney is our man this week.  Not a lot of confidence in this pick other than he is a Las Vegas guy and he is due for a win.  Sometimes it is simply a gut pick.
