Rory McIlroy Obliterates Scoring Record at Quail Hollow

Well, are there any people out there questioning who the number one player in the world is??  Rory McIlroy took one of the toughest golf courses on the PGA Tour and made it look like a local muni.

With a score of 267 (-21) Rory broke the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow scoring record by 5 strokes.  Anthony Kim, yes that Anthony Kim,  held the previous record at (-16).  We probably won’t see a more dominating performance over a course and field than this one all season.  Well…until Rory decides to do it again.

Saturday was the day that the world No.1 golfer really took over.  Setting the single round scoring record at 61 (-11).  McIlroy absolutely took Quail Hollow by the throat and man-handled it into submission.  It was a thing of beauty really.  He set tournament record by making 27 birdies. He led the field in driving distance, averaging 321.1 yards off the tee.  Yes that number is correct!

“I feel like as the best player in the world, I want to go at it every week and, not so much prove it, but just show that,” McIlroy said.AP)

We agree Rory.  You are the best player in the world.  There are other young stars coming into the picture, but they are all well back in your rear-view mirror.  No one dominates like Rory.

He now has 11 PGA Tour wins.  He is just 26 years old.  He is hitting the same stride he was in last summer.  Uh Oh!

It is amazing how the best players seem to get it right and play their best in the most important times of year.  McIlroy was not playing well and was 151st in FedEx Cup standings before the Masters.  After the win at Quail Hollow he is 3rd.

Rory finished 4th at the Masters.  Then he won the WGC Match Play, finished 8th at THE PLAYERS and of course the win this week in Charlotte.  We think the best player in the world is playing his best golf right now.  That is bad news for the rest of the PGA Tour if they have hopes on winning the US Open or Open Championship this summer.

For those of us that get to tune in and watch Rory every week it is going to be a fun summer!
