GolfMonger Preview: Shell Houston Open

The Shell Houston Open is the last chance to earn a golden ticket to Augusta Natuonal and play in the Masters for 2015. It is a gThe reat tournament at a great golf course and therIe are sure to be fireworks as players try to earn that last entry.

The Golf Club of Houston has been a warm up to Augusta for years.  The course is set up like Augusta on purpose to attract players to want to play there and to help the field get ready for the Masters. It is an amazing test of a players game to see if they are ready for the year’s first major championship.

The big question is will we see somebody early that last invitation to the Masters?  Or will we see another player establish themselves as one of the favorites to win the coveted Green Jacket?

GolfMonger Picks:

1. Jordan Spieth – How do we not pick this rising star here??   He is only the hottest player on the planet right now. It would be silly of us not to.  End of story thank you #Goodtalk

2. Phil Mickelson – This pick may surprise a lot of people. But we all know that lefty loves to play the week before a major and generally he plays well here in Houston.  He won in 2011 and had three Top 20s since. Phil has quietly been putting his game together leading up to the Masters.  He will do well this week. And if he does…..watch out Augusta.

3. Matt Jones – We  Will take the defending champion. His game has been very solid lately. He has three top 15s in his last four starts. No reason to think he won’t finish there this week in Houston.

Wild Card Pick: With the last spot in the Masters up for grabs to a winner this week there are many ways we could go here.  We like Charley Hoffman this week. He is coming off a great performance last week so why not?  Our bet is that he keeps it going in Houston.

Next week is the Masters!  We will be full on coverage all week long.  Keep tuned to DYSTnow.com for coverage of the first major of the year!
